Restaurants in Sierra Nevada: from Pradollano to Granada
In Sierra Nevada the dining plan is spread across three clearly distinct areas: the Pradollano resort village itself, the slopes area in Borreguiles, and on the way back towards Granada, a couple of villages with a strong tradition of mountain cuisine (Monachil and Güéjar Sierra). Each has its own type of plan, so here is the selection organised by where you'll be at each point in the day.
Slopeside, so you don't lose ski time
La Terraza Nevasol: in the lowest area of the resort (at around 2,100 m), with views of Pico Veleta. A good stop for a quick bite without leaving the slopes.
Wooden's House Bar: a spacious terrace, ideal for enjoying some winter sun with sandwiches and snacks.
La Bodega Terraza Moët Chandon: the resort's classic après-ski spot. Three different settings, breakfasts, lunches and dinners, with "tardeo" and live music. It's one of the liveliest places to linger over a meal right after coming off the slopes.
Pradollano: the area with the most options
Pradollano concentrates most of the resort's restaurants, with options for every budget:
La Visera: a very central classic, with a good value for money. A good option if you're looking for something uncomplicated.
La Muralla: a grill house specialising in charcoal-grilled meats, one of the best known in the resort. Right next door, La Muralla Burger offers a cheaper, more casual version, ideal if you're with children or looking for something quick.
Alta Badia: right on Plaza de Pradollano, carefully prepared cuisine at affordable prices.
Restaurante Andalusí and La Carreta: two options for classic Andalusian cuisine, with meat as the speciality and traditional local dishes.
Maribel's: one of the most popular restaurants with a terrace in the resort, with an average price of around €25 per person.
La Tavolata: if you fancy a change of pace, it's one of the best-rated pizzerias/Italian restaurants in the area.
Biloba: one of the most affordable and best-rated options for eating without overspending.
For a more special occasion, Pradollano also has upscale options such as Grill at Lodge or Sun Deck at Lodge, with average prices around €55-70 per person. It's best to book in advance during busy periods.
On the way home: Monachil and Güéjar Sierra
If you're heading back to Granada by car, the road down has several stops with traditional mountain cuisine, usually cheaper and with a more local atmosphere than at the resort itself:
La Cantina de Diego (Monachil): traditional Andalusian cuisine in a village full of charm, with dishes such as gazpacho, paella or oxtail.
Restaurante Los Cerezos (Monachil): very highly rated and with an average price of around €20 per person. One of the best value-for-money options in the whole area.
El Mirador de Güéjar Sierra (on the resort's own access road, in the Monachil municipal area): easy parking, homemade food, good ham and dishes such as migas alpujarreñas or oxtail. Very handy for stopping to eat right after coming down from the Sierra.
La Higuera (Güéjar Sierra): terrace and lounge with a fireplace, specialising in typical mountain dishes such as kid goat, charcoal-grilled meat or homemade stews.
If you're staying in Granada
Many visitors to Sierra Nevada sleep in Granada city and go up to ski just for the day, as it's about 30-45 minutes away by road. Granada has a free-tapa-with-your-drink culture that's very particular to Spain, so it's worth booking at least one night to explore the Albaicín or the city centre. Three classics that never disappoint:
Los Diamantes (Street Navas): the go-to spot for fried fish, always lively and with no tables. You eat tapas standing up, as tradition dictates.
Bodegas Castañeda (Street Elvira): a century-old wine cellar for vermouth, cured meats and stews, an essential stop on any tapas route through the centre.
Los Caracoles (Albaicín): the neighbourhood classic for trying snails with a drink, with the San Nicolás viewpoint and its views of the Alhambra just steps away.
