Restaurants in Baqueira Beret and the Aran Valley: a village-by-village guide
Where to eat and dine in Baqueira Beret and the Aran Valley: the best restaurants on the slopes, in Salardú, Arties, Vielha, Bossòst and other villages, with real prices.
After a good morning of skiing, food becomes part of the plan, whether it's stopping for something good right on the slopes or saving your appetite for dinner in a village in the Aran Valley. The area covers both: traditional Aranese cuisine, locally famous pizzerias, and a few high-end tables recognised by Michelin or Repsol.
Here's a selection organised by area with real prices, so you know what to expect before booking.
On the slopes
To avoid losing ski time, or to eat close to your slope-side accommodation, the resort itself has several options spread across Baqueira 1500, Beret and the Orri sector:
- Ticolet (Baqueira): open since 1964, the same year the resort opened. Local produce with French touches (duck breast, valley sturgeon) across three spaces: the main restaurant, a stone-grill area and a raclette area. Booking essential in high season.
- Cinco Jotas Grill (Cota 1800): Iberian cured meats and stew dishes with valley views. The huevos rotos with acorn-fed ham are the most popular order. Average price €40-80, and booking ahead is a must, especially on sunny days.
- Moët Winter Lounge (Orri sector): the resort's most exclusive spot. Omelettes, artichokes, oysters and even valley caviar, paired with champagne or good wine. Average price €20-90 depending on what you order; groups should book, though couples usually find a table without trouble.
- Audi Quattro Bar (Beret): a casual stop right in the centre of Beret, known for its Iberian ham and brie mollete. Average price around €18.
- Escornacabres (Baqueira): the most affordable, family-friendly option, with crepes that are a hit with kids and burgers popular with teens. Average price around €20.
Salardú and Gessa
Salardú and Gessa are just five minutes from Baqueira and are one of the most popular stops for lunch and dinner without straying far from the resort.
- Taberna Eth Bot (Salardú): on the main square, a former farmhouse converted into a grill and market-cuisine restaurant. Highly recommended by valley locals.
- Fandango (Salardú): a terrace with an après-ski vibe and a menu that goes beyond traditional Aranese fare (fish, some seafood). €45-80 à la carte, though there's a lunch menu for around €30.
- Pizzería La Estrellita (Salardú): a small, unpretentious pizzeria that many consider the best in the valley in its category. Average price around €20. Booking is recommended, especially at weekends, as it's a small place.
- Casa Rufus (Gessa): running since 1986, with Olla Aranesa as its signature dish, plus venison medallions and Garonne trout. In high season, getting in without a reservation is nearly impossible.
Bagergue, the highest village in the valley
At 1,409 metres above sea level, Bagergue is the highest inhabited settlement in the Aran Valley, with cobbled streets and an even quieter feel than the rest of the surrounding villages.
- Casa Perú: famous for its Spanish tortilla, considered one of the best in Spain. Its game dishes and trinchat are also standouts. €35-50. Only same-day reservations are accepted, so you'll need to be quick.
- El Jardí Dels Pomers: Pyrenean and Aranese cuisine with a Mediterranean touch, and a terrace with views for sunny midday meals.
Arties and Garós
Arties is one of the valley's prettiest villages, with its slate roofs and its church by the Garonne river, and has the most varied restaurant scene after Vielha. Garós, quieter and less known to passing tourists, holds one of the most interesting culinary surprises in the whole Aran Valley.
- Eth Triton (Arties): the village's go-to grill house, with a highly rated steak tartare. Note: there are two venues with the same name in Arties, so confirm which one when booking.
- La Oca (Arties): a pizzeria set in a stone barn, with a fireplace and an atmosphere very popular with families with children.
- Casa Tana (Arties): a home-cooking restaurant with modest prices (€20-30) and dishes like meatballs in tomato sauce or onion soup.
- Casa Bomba (Arties, also with a venue in Vielha): known for a burger that won the award for best burger in Catalonia in 2022. Prices from €20.
- Es Arraïtzes (Garós): a very different proposal from the rest of the list. Peruvian fusion cuisine with Aranese and Catalan produce, recommended by the Michelin Guide since 2019 as one of the best Peruvian restaurants in Spain. €35-60, with a reputation for very good value for money.
- Eth Restilhè (Garós): an Aranese restaurant with more than 35 years of history and its own charcuterie workshop. Many consider its Olla Aranesa the best in the whole valley. €50-90, closed on Sundays.
Casarilh and Escunhau
Casarilh and Escunhau are two of the smallest and least-visited settlements in the valley, right next to Arties, and for that very reason they're also the ones most frequented by local residents. Almost always a good sign when choosing where to eat.
- Casa Turnay (Escunhau): offers a menu with valley classics such as olla aranesa and venison civet.
- Casa Benito (Casarilh): the most affordable option on this list, with solid home cooking and no price surprises.
- La Torrada (Casarilh): grilled meats popular with valley residents, where price and quality are well balanced.
Vielha, the capital
- Era Coquèla: recommended by the Michelin Guide, blending contemporary cuisine with valley classics. Very popular with, and recommended by, valley residents.
- El Molí: a benchmark for lovers of beef chuletón, with a notable wine list.
- Sidrería Era Bruisha: a small cider house with aged chuletón and omelettes, with cider poured straight from the barrel as part of the experience.
- Roc'n'Cris (Betren, next to Vielha): recommended by Michelin, with Asian fusion cuisine and Aranese produce. Small venue, open only Thursday to Sunday, and requires a deposit to book. Plan ahead.
- Gourmet d'Occitania: a charming bar with a short but appealing menu (butifarra sausage, cheeses, stews), plus a shop selling local products.
- Casa Luis: a more casual option, the valley's go-to spot for sandwiches, with a set lunch menu for around €10.
Bossòst: fine dining in the Lower Aran
- El Portalet: with a Repsol Sun and a Michelin Guide listing, contemporary cuisine with Aranese roots. Open for lunch Tuesday to Sunday and dinner Friday and Saturday only.
- Er Occitan: recognised by Michelin and Repsol, linked to the Slow Food movement, with two set menus (€48 and €68) that change with the season, and a wine list of more than 100 labels. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Before you book
The smaller and better-known a place is, the faster it fills up, so if you already know your dates, book dinner as soon as you can, don't leave it for the same day, except at places that only take next-day reservations, especially in high season like Christmas and Easter.
