Baqueira Beret, in the Val d’Aran, has been the leading name in Pyrenean skiing since it opened in 1964. Its ski area adds up to 173 km of skiable terrain among forests and wide open slopes, with green, blue, red and black runs for every level plus off-piste itineraries, starting at 1,500 metres in altitude. It is divided into four sectors, each with its own personality: Beret brings together the sunniest, most accessible slopes, ideal for your first turns, and Pla de Beret has a cross-country skiing area; Baqueira, the heart of the resort, offers varied terrain to improve your level; and Bonaigua and Baciver, the highest sectors, hide the off-piste terrain for those looking for something wilder. A huge ski area with a single character: that of one of the most complete resorts in Spain.

Snowboarding means riding down the slopes with both feet strapped to a single board, and it’s the favourite choice for anyone looking for a freer, more creative style on the snow. You can learn at any age, although children usually start from around 7 or 8, once they have the strength and balance to control the board.
The first days are the most demanding: falling is normal while you learn to keep your balance and stop. But progress comes quickly, and after 2 or 3 days of lessons most people are linking turns on easy runs. With private lessons the instructor corrects your stance from the very start; group lessons are more affordable and really motivating for learning with others. If you can already get by, a lesson helps you refine your technique, tackle harder runs or get started in the snowpark.
All you need is warm waterproof clothing, gloves and sunglasses or goggles; wrist guards are also recommended for the first few days. The board, boots and helmet can be rented at the resort itself. On SnowTeach you can compare schools, choose your date and level, and book your lesson online in minutes.
Your instructor focuses only on you or your group of family or friends and tailors every exercise to your level. It's the best option for your first days on the board, because they correct you on the spot and help you get through the falling phase faster, and also for polishing your technique if you already ride blue and red runs. You choose the day, time and length.
From 1 hour and from €65.

You learn in small groups with snowboarders of your own age and level, usually over several consecutive days and on a fixed schedule. It's a very practical option if you're spending a few days in Baqueira: each session you pick up where you left off and progress together, which is really motivating when you're starting out.
If you already ride confidently and want to take the next step, a freestyle lesson teaches you to use the jumps and features of Baqueira's snowpark progressively and safely. And if fresh powder is more your thing, you can also get started in freeride with a qualified professional; check with the school whether you need to bring safety equipment (avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe) or whether they provide it.
Kids love snowboarding, especially when they learn with instructors who are used to teaching through play. Most schools accept children from the age of 6, although some start younger. You can choose between courses grouped by age and level or private lessons, where the instructor focuses only on your children and moves at their pace. Most lessons start at Baqueira 1800, at the top of the gondola.
Learning to snowboard as an adult is absolutely possible. The first days are the most demanding: you learn to keep your balance on the board, to stop and to link your first turns. With an instructor, this phase goes much faster and with fewer falls. If you already snowboard, a lesson helps you refine your technique, gain confidence on red runs or get started in the snowpark.
There are many schools in Baqueira and not all of them have the same approach. Before booking, look out for these points:
At SnowTeach we work with schools that have qualified instructors and industry professionals, so you learn from people who know how to teach.
Some schools focus on skiing, while others have instructors who specialise in snowboarding. If it's your sport, look for someone who teaches it every day.
On a snowboard, flat sections are hard work at first. Ask where the lesson will take place and whether it suits your first days.
If you want to start jumping, look for a freestyle instructor who can teach you to use the snowpark features progressively. Before you go, check its status on the resort's official website.
To ride off-piste, look for an instructor who specialises in freeride and ask what safety equipment you need.
Many lessons start at Baqueira 1800, which you reach by gondola from Baqueira 1500. Carrying your board, allow enough time to arrive on time.
On SnowTeach you can compare snowboard lessons from several schools in Baqueira in one place and book online with real-time availability.
If you don't have your own gear, there's no need to bring it: in Baqueira you can rent a board, boots and a helmet at the resort itself or in the shops around the valley. On SnowTeach you can also book your rental equipment in Baqueira online and have it ready before you arrive.
