Sierra Nevada is the highest ski resort in Spain and the southernmost in Europe, which means plenty of sunshine and a season that often stretches well into spring. With more than 110 km of runs and around 1,200 metres of vertical drop, the biggest in the country, there’s room for every level: Borreguiles brings together the sunniest green and blue runs, perfect for your first turns, while Veleta and Laguna de las Yeguas raise the bar with red and black runs for those who have already mastered the technique. In 1996 it hosted the Alpine World Ski Championships. All of this sits above Pradollano, the resort’s base village, about 45 minutes from Granada and the starting point for the lifts to every area.

Alpine skiing is the most popular way to enjoy the snow: skiing down marked slopes and using the lifts to go back up. You can learn at any age, and most children start from around 3 or 4, with instructors who specialise in teaching kids.
If it’s your first time, after 2 or 3 days of lessons you’ll usually be skiing green and blue runs with confidence. Private lessons progress faster because the instructor adapts entirely to you; group lessons are more affordable and perfect for learning alongside others, including children at a similar level. If you already ski, a lesson helps you polish your technique, gain confidence on red runs or try off-piste for the first time.
All you need is warm waterproof clothing, gloves and sunglasses or goggles. Skis, boots and helmets can be rented at the resort itself. On SnowTeach you can compare schools, choose your date and level, and book your lesson online in minutes.
