La Molina is the oldest ski resort in Spain: in 1943 it installed the country’s first ski lift, and today it remains a benchmark for skiing in Catalonia. It ranges from 1,667 to 2,537 metres in altitude, with 71 km of skiable terrain spread across 66 runs for every level, from a large beginners’ area to more technical routes, and around 60% of the skiable area is covered by artificial snow. Its Supermolina stadium has hosted women’s Alpine Ski World Cup races, and the resort was the venue for the 2011 Snowboard World Championships. It is linked by gondola and chairlift to neighbouring Masella, and together they form Alp 2500, one of the largest ski areas in the Pyrenees.
